TELL MY STORY TOO! COMMEMORATING & CELEBRATING AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE
IN THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

Montgomery, AL (05/31/2023) – On Thursday, June 8 at 12:00 pm CT, Barbara Tagger will present Tell My Story Too! Commemorating & Celebrating African American Heritage in the National Park Service at the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH). This special presentation, held in commemoration of Juneteenth, will be held in the ADAH’s Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium. It will also livestream through the ADAH’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Admission is free.

Barbara Tagger has served in the National Park Service for more than forty years. During her career, she has contributed to the creation and development of a wide range of national and international African American historic sites. In this presentation, Tagger will discuss the once-overlooked events, places, and stories that are now readily celebrated and commemorated within the National Park Service for their significance to America’s rich Black history and heritage.

During her tenure with the National Park Service, Tagger has worked at numerous sites including the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March National Historic Trail, Tuskegee Airman Airmen National Historic Site, National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park, and Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. Tagger’s contributions to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park in Maryland and the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in New York earned her the prestigious 2013 Harriet Tubman Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Baltimore African American Tourism Council. She currently serves as park superintendent at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.
