ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY DEBUTS NEW WEBSITE

Montgomery, AL (08/03/2022) – Today the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) debuted a new website, the culmination of a multi-year project to improve and enhance the agency’s online presence. The new site (www.archives.alabama.gov) features powerful new research tools, user-friendly databases for educators and public officials, information for planning visits to the ADAH’s Museum of Alabama, and many more opportunities for the public to connect with the ADAH and Alabama history online.

Highlights of the new site include robust databases for conducting historical and genealogical research in the ADAH’s extensive archival collections; the Alabama History Hub, a one-stop resource for K-12 educators classroom resources curated by ADAH staff; an events calendar for at-a-glance information about ADAH programs; and a new database of retention schedules and other helpful resources on records management for state and local government offices.

To mark the official launch, the ADAH released this welcome and brief tour of the site by Director Steve Murray https://bit.ly/ADAH_WebsiteLaunch.

“Today’s launch is an important milestone in the Archives’ history and our ongoing mission to collect, preserve, and share the stories of all Alabamians,” said Murray. “The creation our new website took years of planning and development. I am grateful to our staff for their diligent work to ensure that the new site will be a useful resource for the public. I also want to thank the team at the Alabama Office of Information Technology for applying their technical expertise to building the site and its many custom databases and applications. Together, we have created an effective and attractive online presence to carry the Archives forward in an age when so much of our lives are spent online.”
