The Week of March 29-April 2, 2004

On Monday, contractors continued connecting duct for air handler # 4 on the third floor and insulated the 3rd floor steam and chill lines. Also on the 3rd floor, electricians continued wiring on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor electrical rooms, and in the H & R building. Dry wall finishing work continued on the 1st floor and mezzanine. Plaster work continued on the high ceiling on the 1st floor. Outside, metal studs, lathe work and "brown coating" continued. Coping work started on the south side of the building and work also continued on the ridge plate of the radius. Jackhammer demolition work started on the North east plaza wall. On Tuesday, dampers were installed on pipe coils for air handler unit 4 along with insulation on the 3rd floor. Sheet rock finishing work continued on the mezzanine and 1st and third floor areaway. "Brown coat" work continued on the south side and molding was run on the west side. Roof panel work on the North and South side continued and contractors continued on the radius wall panels. Jackhammer work continued. Two windows were set on the south east side of the building. Electrical worked on the 2nd floor electrical room, sub-basement, and on wiring speed controls. On Wednesday, workmen insulated 3 & 4 " chill water pipes and hot water coils for air handler 4. Electricians pulled wire in the sub-basement electrical room and speed drives for hot water pipes 1 & 2 Drywall plaster finish work on the ceiling and flex trim continued in the building. Brown coat and lathe work continued on the south west tower. Panels on the north and south side were caulked. Jackhammer work also continued the north east plaza. On Thursday, contractors insulated the 3 inch line tie in for the air handler on the south west corner. Electricians continued on the sub-basement lights, and speed drive power. Lathe work was installed on the South west tower along with brown coat. Scaffolding was erected on building South side exterior. Contractors worked on roof panels on the north side and west side windows. The curb was formed for the North east plaza and the wall was chipped out. On Friday, work on the plaza wall continued along with general electrical work. Finally, site clean up work finished the week.

The Week of March 22-26, 2004

On Monday, contractors installed drain valves and worked on the air vent for the 3rd floor for the new wing. That same contractor insulated pipe reheat coils and worked on the copper gutters. Other sub-contractors finished the first floor and mezzanine and plastered the ceiling in first floor. Sheathing was installed throughout the building and roof panels were also worked on. Windows on the south side were readjusted and JESCO cleaned up and set door frames in the building. On the 3rd floor, electrical room, contractors ran pipes and pulled wire. Lights were installed in the H & R building also. Outside, contractors started setting column caps on the North side of the building. On Tuesday, contractors insulated ducts and worked on reheat pipe coils. Electricians worked on the 3rd floor electrical room in the H & R building hi lights and roughed-in the wire rack at the man holes. Interior contractors worked on the reference room columns, plastered the ceiling and worked on the exterior wall on the mezzanine drywall. Scaffolding was removed on the north side and the contractor installed lathe and stucco on other exterior areas of the building. Panels on the south side were worked on and flashing on the flat roof radius in the H & R building was also worked on by contractors. Door frames were also set. On Wednesday, contractors insulated ducts and copper and reworked H & R plant chill water valves. Preparation work in the sub-basement to connect power to the H & R building continued along with light installation. Interior columns in the reference continued to be installed along with drywall work on the first floor and mezzanine, and plaster work in the high ceiling. Scaffolding was erected on the south side porch area and lathe stucco rough-in continued. Roofers worked on the south side panels, and the H & R flat roof area. On Thursday, contractors roughed-in and insulated copper and water pipes on the 3rd floor. Lights continued to be installed in the H & R building along with electrical work in the 3rd floor electrical room and the sub-basement mechanical room. Drywall work for the 1st floor was completed today. Plaster on the high ceiling frame wall was also worked on this day. Roofers worked on the North side flat roof of the H & R bldg. and finally frames were set and the basement was caulked. Today, workmen started jackhammer work to remove a retaining wall on the North east side of the old bldg plaza. On Friday, Alabama Power worked on the power transformer station to finalize preparations for permanent power to the new wing. Roof work, plaster work and jackhammer demolition work also continued today. Finally workmen cleaned up the site at the end of the day.

The Week of March 15-19, 2004

On Monday, contractors insulated sub-basement pipe reheat coils and repiped control valves. Electricians also pulled wire to the sub-basement. Other contractors plastered the high ceiling in the reference room and installed sheet rock in RC1. They also dry walled and taped on the first floor and mezzanine. Outside, sub-contractors continued to stucco and install metal studs on the south side of the building. Flash curb panels and radius roof flashing were also installed. Walls were patched and caulked, and doors were set. On Tuesday, hangers were installed in the sub-basement and reheat coils in air handler unit 1 to the DDS system and insulated the 3rd floor. Electricians ran pipes and pulled wire in the H & R building, sub-basement, first floor and electrical room. Other contractors finished sheetrock work on the first floor and mezzanine, and continued plaster work in the ceiling, lobby and reference room. Metal studs and framing was worked on on the south side of the building exterior. On Wednesday, insulation was replaced on the 1st and 2nd floor, and paint and patching work started. Contractors roughed-in the humidifier and air handler coils for air handlers 1 - 3. They also reworked valves. Exterior workers continued stucco work, installing metal studs and framed the southwest tower. Masons installed cement blocks in the fire chase for the 3rd floor and rubbed and ground walls in the west areaway. Coping was roughed-in. Also, electricians worked on the transformer vault, ran pipes and pulled wire to the H & R building. The ceiling was also plastered in the lobby and reference room. Contractors installed the first set of columns in the Reference Room. On Thursday, contractors ran pipe to air handler #3, and trimmed HVAC pipe in the sub-basement. Copper gutters were installed in the basement. Insulation was replaced in the 1st floor and mezzanine. Pipes were run and wire pulled to the electrical vault. Wiring was also pulled from the H & R building to the electrical building on the first floor. Ceiling plaster work continued in the high ceiling in the mezzanine and the first floor was sheetrocked. Reference room columns were roughed-in. Metal studs and framing continued on the s/w tower along with stucco work. On Friday, hot water pipe and trim work continued on the HVAC system along with insulation work. Wires were pulled to the electrical vault. Plaster work continued on the ceiling along with sheet rock. Columns continued to be roughed-in in the reference room. Doors and windows were set and the week finished with a general cleanup of the site.

The Week of March 8-12, 2004

On Monday, contractors worked on outside air handler unit for the 3rd floor and reheat coils pipe. Electricians worked on the 3rd floor electrical room, and hooked up wire in the sub-basement. In the mezzanine and mechanical room, workmen finished hanging sheetrock and started plastering in the lobby. Other sub-contractors roughed-in metal studs, clips and insulation. Roofers installed "Z" closures in roof panels on the north wing. Cement block work continued on the 3rd floor, basement and RC1. Temporary arch and door struts were also removed on the 3rd floor. On Tuesday, workmen continued working on pipe reheat coils and roughed-in steam pipes for the humidifier at air handler unit 4. Work continued on electrical panels on the 3rd floor, and starters in the H & R building, along with wires in the sub-basement. Ceiling plaster work continued in the lobby and reference room. Sheet rock was hung in the mezzanine vestibule and also above door # 117. Metal studs, clips and cornice work continued on the nw/sw/se and south side of the building. "Z" closure work in the roof panels were also worked on. Cement work continued in the basement double wall on the south side of the building. Door frame set work also continued. On Wednesday, pipe work started on air handler unit # 5 on the mezzanine, and pipes were also run to the air handler unit # 1 on the 3rd floor. Electricians worked in the transmitter vault, and installed starters. They also pulled wire to the 3rd floor electrical room. Plaster ceiling work continued in the ref. room and on the walls around door # 117. Metal stud work and clips were installed on the south side of the building. Ridge 8 hip caps were put in place on the South side. On Thursday, contractors installed ducts and insulated in the sub-basement. They pulled wire to the 3rd floor electrical room and worked on the transformer vault. Fire tape work started in the mezzanine, along with plaster work in the ceiling lobby and reference room. Rough-in of metal studs and clips continued to the S/W tower. Ridge and hip cap work continued on the north side. Square tubing was painted on the 3rd floor troughs. The stairwell was rubbed and patched also. On Friday, ducts were installed and wiring was pulled. Ceiling plaster work continued along with wood blocking on the roof. They also worked on the flood trough, installed the curb roof and framed the wall around door 117. Finally, they continued with fire taping and rubbing and patching of walls.

The Week of March 1-6, 2004

Contractors ran cold water pipe to the custodian's office and installed a new mop sink near the east ADAH wall. Miscellaneous duct work continued in the new wing. New wire was pulled in the sub-basement to the transformer vault. Framing continued on the 3rd floor, and work continued in the 3rd floor fire ceiling. Insulation was hung and clips were installed on the southwest and south side of the building exterior. The ice and water shield was worked on in the H & R building, along with roof panels on the north side of the Archives building. The tops of vaults were set on the south west side, and clean up around the Alabama St. fire hydrant also continued. Jesco water-tested the roof drains this day also. On Tuesday, workmen lifted duct for the new wing, along with pipes for the 3rd floor. Work continued on pipe reheat coils. Switch gears and panels were made up for the sub-basement, and pump starters for the H & R building. Sheet rock was hung in the 3rd floor corridor. Insulation was roughed-in & clips on the building's south side, and workmen installed roof panels, fixed leaks in the roofing trough. General cleanup on the site continued. On Wednesday, contractors ran reheat pipe coils for Archives heat coil 2 and chill water lines on the third floor. Wires were connected on the H & R building along with wiring the the sub-basement. Sheetrock was hung on the 3rd floor. Corridor walls are 99 % complete. Insulation and rough-in on the south side of the building continued. Metal flashing was installed connecting to the existing building along with flashing trough on the building's north side. Back fill work completed the day's work. Thursday, transformer installation work was complete and a humidifier was installed. Sheathing was removed and replaced on the s/east side of the building and roof panel wall flashing on the existing building was tied into the new wing. Cement block work started on the west side of the first floor. Water that had leaked into the building was pumped out. On Friday, pipe installation work continued on the 3rd floor, along with the reheat coil clean-up and wire pulling. Contractors also installed block work for 1st floor to mezzanine to accommodate Bainbridge door frame.
