What You Can Do For Us:

Volunteers are a vital part of the team that carries out the mission of the Department of Archives and History and the Museum of Alabama!

Opportunities are available for all ages and hours are set to match your schedule. If you love history, enjoy people, need experience to boost a resume, and want to see what happens behind-the-scenes in an archives and museum, apply to be a volunteer!

Current Volunteer Needs:

Museum Tour Guides: Become a trained museum guide and lead student and adult tours through the Museum of Alabama’s exhibit galleries. Perfect for those who love history, people, and teaching others.

Front Desk: Be the face of the Alabama Archives and Museum of Alabama as a front desk greeter. Help guests sign-in and provide directions for their vist. Good people skills are a must!

Museum Store: Work in our retail store providing assistance to guests as they purchase souvenirs and other Alabama history-related and Alabama-made items.

Behind-The-Scenes: Work with archives and museum staff to process and care for collections and assist with other behind-the-scenes projects. Perfect for those who prefer working away from the spotlight.

Jr. Volunteer Program

If you are in middle or high school, become a Jr. Volunteer! We offer a variety of opportunities for community service hour requirements. Volunteering is also a great way to fill free time during summer vacation and other school breaks!
