Charles A. Stakley is married to the former Winifred Lightfoot and lives in Montgomery, Alabama. He has four sons and seven grandchildren. He attended the public schools of Montgomery -- Bellinger Hill, Baldwin Junior High, and Sidney Lanier High School. He attended the University of Alabama, the University of Arizona, and holds an LLB degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. He has been an active practicing lawyer in Montgomery, Alabama since 1960. He was president of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston and Garrett, P.A. for many years.

PROFESSIONAL

  • Served on the Board of Editors of the Alabama Law Review;
  • Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers;
  • Served as Alabama State Chairman of the American College of Trial Lawyers from 1994 through 1997;
  • Former special assistant attorney general for major litigation involving the State of Alabama;

  • Has conducted various programs and seminars including those sponsored by law schools and medical schools, throughout the United States and Europe;

  • Has been a Sunday School teacher and department superintendent at First Baptist Church of Montgomery;

  • Twice President of the Board of the Montgomery Symphony Association and currently a Board Member;
  • Former Board Chairman of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and currently a Board Member;
  • Former Trustee of Huntingdon College;
  • Former Board Member, Alabama Symphony (Birmingham);
  • Member of Board of Overseers of Boston Symphony Orchestra;

  • Recipient of the Man of the Year award by YMCA of Montgomery (1975); Inducted into the Sidney Lanier High School Hall of Fame;
  • Recipient of the Blount Art Leadership Award from the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts;
  • Recipient of Governor's Award from State art Council;
  • Recipient of Silver Baton Award from Montgomery Symphony Association (award given every five years);
  • De Tocqueville Award from Montgomery Area United Way.
