Mr. Daves is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, where he attended the public schools. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Following service in the United States Navy, Mr. Daves attended Stetson University College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, in 1978. While at Stetson, Mr. Daves served on the editorial board of the law review.

After practicing law three years, Mr. Daves joined the American National Bank and Trust Company of Mobile in 1982 as a new business development officer in the trust department. In 1984, he was posted to Dothan, Alabama, where he started a trust department for AmSouth. In 1985, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama, and took over the management of AmSouth's trust department there. Mr. Daves assumed the post of manager of AmSouth's Mobile trust department in 1993, and in 1994, took on additional responsibility for AmSouth's Private Banking function in Mobile.

Subsequently, Mr. Daves served as Area Executive of AmSouth's Central Alabama Area, and in 2001 he was named Area Executive for AmSouth's North Alabama Area. He currently serves as Area Wealth Management Executive in AmSouth's Birmingham office.

Mr. Daves graduated with distinction from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware in 1991. In connection with his work at Stonier, Mr. Daves completed a thesis entitled, A Review of the Opportunities Available to Banks to Improve Profitability through the Use of Fee Based Financial Services Products. This thesis was published by the American Bankers Association and placed in the libraries of the American Bankers Association, the University of Delaware and the Harvard University Graduate Shool of Business Administration.

In addition to his thesis, Mr. Daves has published several works, most recently an article entitled Management of the Affluent Client Base, which appeared in the June 1998 issue of Trusts and Estates magazine.

Mr. Daves is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Florida Bar Association and a number of civic and charitable organizations. He is past president of the Trust Division of the Alabama Bankers Association. He is retired from the United States Navy Reserve with the rank of Commander.
