The Private Records Collections of the Alabama
Department of Archives and History: A Tips, Tools, and Treasures Workshop on May 10
What do the Raphael Semmes' log book from the CSS Alabama, the final letter written by a World War I soldier to his mother before his death, and Inez Baskins'scrapbook of the Civil Rights movement have in common? All of these records and more are part of the Private Records Collections at the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH). Join us at 10:00 on Saturday morning, May 10, to learn about these unique collections. Archivist Mary Jo Scott will explain what the Private Records Collections are, share some voices from Alabama's past found in them, and recommend collections that may be useful to family researchers. This is the third program in a new workshop series, Tips, Tools, and Treasures, designed to introduce researchers to the vast array of research materials available at the ADAH, and to familiarize them with department services. Archives staff will present these programs the second Saturday of each month in 2008 from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. The programs are free and do not require pre-registration. All programs will take place at ADAH, 624 Washington Ave., Montgomery. A complete list of topics and dates follows:
