West Coast Midget Champ (1946-47). Won, leading 195 out of 200 laps, (1953) the race in 130-degree heat where only five drivers finished without relief; only 19 cars finished at all. Vukovich was killed instantly when he was involved in a multi-car wreck, trying to become the first driver to win Indianapolis three times in a row.
