Alabama Repositories Directory Database
The Alabama Repositories Directory was initiated as part of the activities of the Alabama Historical Records Advisory Board. The board's objective for providing care and preservation information about historical records to records curators necessitated the development of a list of all repositories in the state housing archival collections. The Alabama Repository Directory was created using National Historical Publications and Records Commission State and National Partnership Program grant funds.
Expansion of the repository directory by including information about three-dimensional repositories in Alabama occurred when the state received an Institute for Museum and Library Services Connecting Collections program grant earlier this year.
Information in the database was compiled using organization directories, published directories of government offices, and the internet. If you are represented and your organization/institution does not have original, one-of-a-kind artifacts, objets d'art, records, documents, photographs, or other cultural heritage materials that you are preserving, please let us know and we can remove you from the list. If you do preserve materials and are not represented, please let us know and we will add you to the list.
