Central to the mission of the Alabama Historical Records Advisory Board is the development and submission to the NHPRC of a plan that outlines Alabama's priorities for historical records preservation. In order to ensure that the plan addresses the wishes of Alabama citizens, the HRB would like to hear from all constituencies in the state concerned about and interested in historical records issues.

The first part of the planning process involves the distribution and collection of surveys about records in Alabama. Once the survey process ends, the HRB will hold two focus group sessions to prioritize the survey results. The HRB will take the survey results and focus group priorities and use them to develop a statewide plan. The plan will help the archival community to plan programs and address records issues that meet the needs of Alabama repositories and users.

Please help the HRB identify statewide historical records preservation needs by completing one or both of the following surveys by July 31, 2007:

Historical Records User Survey

Historical Records Repository Survey

If you prefer to complete a paper copy of either survey, or if you have questions or comments regarding the survey, please contact Tom Turley or Tracey Berezansky at 334-242-4452. Their email addresses are: or
