Don Logan was appointed Chairman of AOL Time Warner's Media and Communications Group in July 2002. In this position, he oversees America Online, Time Inc., Time Warner Cable, the AOL Time Warner Book Group, and the Interactive Video unit.
Before assuming his current position, Mr. Logan served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Time Inc. since August 1994, where he managed the operating and strategic initiatives of AOL Time Warner's publishing division. Time Inc. is the largest magazine publisher in the world and a leading direct marketer of music and videos. Previously, he served as Time Inc.'s President and Chief Operating Officer since June 1992.
Mr. Logan joined Southern Progress Corporation in 1970. He was named President of Oxmoor House, its book publishing division, in 1978, and became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Progress in 1986. Southern Progress, the largest regional magazine and book publisher in the country, was acquired by Time Inc. in 1985.
Mr. Logan graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University and earned his M. S. from Clemson University. He has received honorary doctorates from Auburn University, Clemson University, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
He maintains a close relationship with Auburn University where he is active in many University activities. He was also active as a trustee of Samford University, a member of the President's Council at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a member of the President's Advisory Council at Clemson University. He still serves on the Board of the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Mr. Logan has served as a director of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, as Co-Chair of the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, and as a Board member of the Magazine Publishers of America and the National Book Foundation. In 2001, he received the Henry Johnson Fisher Award, the magazine industry's highest honor.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of First Health Group Corp., a major managed care organization based in Downer's Grove, Illinois.
Mr. Logan and his wife Sandra have homes in New York and Birmingham. They have two sons, Stan (Julie) and Jeff (Katrina), and two beautiful granddaughters, Mary Clark and Grace Anne.
