Jack ThompsonOn January 16, 1995, Thompson became the first Republican Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. Earlier he served as an Assistant Commissioner under former Commissioner Albert McDonald.He grew up in Colbert County and graduated from Colbert County High School. Commissioner Thompson has a B.S. Degree in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee. He has 4 children and seven grandchildren. He spent 31 years with the Cooperative Entension Service, retiring in December 1987. Commissioner Thompson is past President of the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce; past Campaign Chairman of the United Way; past President of the Limestone County Cattlemen's Association; a lifetime Director of the State Cattlemen's Association; and lifetime member of the Athens Industrial Development Association. He is the recipient of the 1996 Father of the Year Award presented by the Alabama Cattlewomen's Association.
