Robert Ransom Poole

Of Faunsdale, was born February 9, 1853, near Uniontown, Perry County, and was the son of Ransom R. Poole, a native of North Carolina, and wife Susan Ivey. His paternal grandparents are J. K. C. Poole, and wife Ridley Ransom, both of Johnston County, N. C. The latter was a member of the Ransom family of that state. Mr. Poole attended the primary schools, and the Greene Springs Academy, under Dr. Henry Tutwiler. He matriculated at Howard College, but did not graduate. He was a planter. He was elected representative in the general assembly in 1898, in 1900 was elected Commissioner of Agriculture, and was re-elected in 1902. He was a Democrat, and an Episcopalian. On December 10, 1874, he was married to Corinne E., daughter of John McRae and wife Josephine Ravesie, of Hale County. From 1894 to 1898 Mr. Poole was editor of the Marengo Democrat. He was a Knight of Pythias.
