Hardin Perkins
State Treasurer: 1829-1834


PERKINS, HARDIN, State Treasurer, president of the State bank, and legislator, was born 1791, in Tennessee, and died in Tuscaloosa in 1850, came at an early age into the public life of Alabama. He was for several years State Treasurer, and later became president of the State bank, the capital then being at Tuscaloosa. In 1840, he was elected to the Alabama legislature and held that position for many years, including 1847-49-50. Married: Sophia Salina Holland. Children: included in the fruit of this union were, 1. Claudius Hardin, lawyer and planter, graduate of the University of Alabama, m. Hattie Earle of Elyton; 2. Thomas H., deceased; 3. Sophie Sarah Louisa, m. William Cochrane, parents of William Gilbert Cochrane. Last residence: Tuscaloosa.
