Thomas E. Knight, Jr.Thomas E. Knight, Jr., of Greensboro, was born June 19, 1898, at that place. He was the son of Thomas E. and Rebecca (Williams) Knight, the former a native of Greensboro and now a judge of the Supreme Court; grandson of William N. and Eva (Happell) Knight, of Greensboro, and of Dr. Mark Williams, of Athens. Mr. Knight received his early education in the public schools of Greensboro and at Southern University Preparatory School. He entered the University of Alabama, but left in 1917 to enter the World War and saw service with the First Alabama Cavalry and the 117th Field Artillery, 1917-1919. He then took up the study of law and was admitted to the bar in 1922. He served as solicitor, Hale County, 1922-1925, assistant attorney general, 1925-1930, and was elected as Attorney General in the general election of 1930. He was a Democrat, a Mason, Elk, Knight of Pythias, member of the American Legion, Alabama Bar Association, and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon college fraternity. Married: Leila, daughter of Lee M. and Dora (McEchin) Otts, of Greensboro. Children: Lelia Otts, m. James Cox Webb of Demopolis, AL. Knight died on May 17, 1937 and buried in Live Oak Cemetery, Selma, Alabama. Authorities: Alabama Department of Archives and History, Official and Statistical Register, 1935, 32.
