State Auditor Jan Cook

Jan Cook is in her eleventh year at the Public Service Commission as Commissioner, Place 1. She was first elected to the Commission in November, 1990, was re-elected for her second four-year term in November, 1994, and was re-elected for her third four-year term in November, 1998.

She came to the Commission after 8 years as State Auditor. In 1982, she became the youngest person ever elected State Auditor in Alabama. During that election, she polled more votes than any other candidate running for state office.

Before running for State Auditor, Cook was a member of the City Council in her hometown of Dozier in Crenshaw County. She attended Auburn University, earning a degree in Political Science. She has done graduate work at both Troy State University and Auburn University at Montgomery.
