Samuel Gordon Frierson
State Treasurer: 1840-1846


FRIERSON, SAMUEL GORDON, lawyer, was born in 1805 in Williamsburg District, S.C., and died April 5, 1857, in Tuscaloosa; brother of Judge Gideon Blackburn Frierson. He was educated in the common schools of Tennessee; read law in Tuscaloosa with Eli Shortridge; admitted to practice, 1826; represented Tuscaloosa in the legislature, 1834 and 11835; postmaster of Tuscaloosa in 1838; elected state Treasurer 1840, serving until 1847, when he resumed the practice of the law. Last residence: Tuscaloosa.
