Born December 24, 1946
Appointed U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Alabama, by Ronald Reagan in 1981, serving under Presidents Reagan and George Bush, resigning in 1993.
In 1991, selected as a member of special committee to draft the Department of Justice's position on violent crime.
In 1989, elected Vice Chairman of the U.S. Attorney General's Advisory Committee by his fellow U.S. Attorneys.
Raised in Hybart, Alabama, educated in public schools of Wilcox County.
Graduated from Huntingdon College and earned law degree at University of Alabama.
Married to former Mary Blackshear, father of three children: Mary Abigail, a university junior; Ruth, a college freshman; and Sam, a high school sophmore.
In 1973, commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, served in Army Reserves until 1986, attaining rank of captain.
